In case you have decided to pursue International Baccalaureate as your path for college study prior to university then here are a few guidelines you could follow to achieve excellence in your performance not only during your IB program but also in your University.
Find your Path
The International Baccalaureate generally requires its student to choose from a range of seven diverse subjects for studying which are,
- Language and Literature
- Language acquisition
- Individuals and Societies
Most of these subjects can be taken at either a standard level (SL), which requires 150 hours of instructional time, or higher level (HL) which requires 240 hours of instructional time. Other than that, there are the following core elements – the extended essay, theory of knowledge and service, activity & creativity – which are essential part of the program which is compulsory for every student.
While choosing your combination of subjects pick the ones which sparks your interest the most and you enjoy studying them. This program allows you a lot of flexibility while choosing your subjects which might not be possible in other traditional college programs. This whole program encourages an individual to think outside the box and be creative about it.
Brush up your skills
Once you choose your path, focus on it and absorb as much knowledge as you can from that subject. It is a pretty rigorous program and you will have to work for it to score well. Although scoring in exams should not be your main goal, learning should be your goal and good scores will definitely follow suit. If you want extra help in certain areas and subjects then it is a good to enroll yourself for extra guidance. If you are in India you can find excellent IB tutors in Gurgaon who can help you through. Once you built a good base in your chosen subjects then you can take it up for future studies in University.
Plan and Organize
The IB program not only requires you hard work to excel but also smart work. It requires you to write extensive essays, research work and other comprehensive large format projects. To finish them on time can be a challenge without prior planning. You need to allot your time to each one differently depending on priority. While writing essays, do them in sections and version like a first draft, a second draft and a final draft instead of trying to finish them at once. This not only manages your time efficiently but also helps you minimize errors. Other than that, plan a study routine for each day of the week to cope up.
